Kerala Houseboat Experience

Kerala Houseboat Experience

Dec 21, 2010

Rainbow Cruises has a fleet of 20 standard and premium houseboats in Alleppey, with one to four bedrooms each, a living room, verandas, kitchen and a qualified crew.

The standard version costs 7000 rupees per night for two people, with five star meal, dinner and breakfast included. The premium boats are a little bit more luxurious and cost 10.000 per couple per night. Cruises are possible all year, even during the monsoons.

The best period is from December to February, when the weather is always clear. Check in is at 12:00 pm and check out at 10:00. The houseboat sails till sunset and after it stands on a calm spot to overnight. Living in a houseboat at the backwaters of Kerala is an awesome experience you must have before dieing.

Imagine a huge channel, something like the Canal Grande of Venice, running through rice plantations, palm areas and fairy tale villages for 45 km. The water highway and the interconnecting channels are the only link between this huge community of fishermen and farmers with the outside world. It’s a peaceful, heavenly place to live, with no cars, traffic, noise and pollution.

And you cruise there peacefully in a comfortable, clean, perfectly equipped house boat with a great cook who will present some of the best tastes of Keralan cuisine during the day, freshly cooked on board. Pirogue tours are arranged to get into the narrow channels and visits to old Portuguese churches and to a snake boat.

In other words it’s worth extending your stay here in Kerala, the most exotic part of India. And Rainbow Cruises in Alleppey is the right partner to do so.  Cruises are possible all year, even during the monsoons. The best period is from December to February, when the weather is always clear. Check in is at 12:00 pm and check out at 10:00.
