DAY 1177        07-09-2010

Misano, Italy km.: 166.488, day km.: 337 We watch live the MotoGP of San Marino!

Remembering my brother...

I know that the site has been a bit inactive for several days but, believe me, we have been inactive in our everyday life as well. We live a family life all these days since we came back to Montevideo from Rio de Janeiro.

We settled down in the house of our Greek friends and we feel recharged for the last part of our trip. What is next? On July 26th, we will get aboard Grand Amburgo, a cargo vessel of Grimaldi shipping and we will sail through the Atlantic ocean to Dakar.

Our arrival date in Africa is August 9th. There we have to take the long way home through Sahara, Morocco and Mediterranean Europe. This will be a well expected trip that we will enjoy the best.

From Dakar to Marrakesh, we will travel together with Kostas and Georgia, our friends from Athens who had joined us in Zambia and Botswana, exactly three years ago. We will take the straight route from Dakar to Nouadhibu where we will stay in another friends' house, Nicolas.

From there we will cross Western Sahara - don't forget you passport copies for the frequent road blocks - and we will arrive to Marrakesh, from where our friends will fly back home. Then we will stay some days in a Greek house in Rabat, at the very first greek we met during this trip.

Then we will cross Spain, southern France and Italy. From there, probably we will cross former Yugoslavia to Thessaloniki, our hometown in Macedonia, Greece.

I write all these remembering my brother who died of cancer exactly two years ago. To be honest, we were not so close lately and not for a specific reason. Vasilis was 13 years older than me and I really don't know if he knew we were attempting this trip.

But he was my brother and we had lived beautiful moments together. When he died, we were in Kathmandu. It was the day 388 of our trip. I though about interrupting the trip and going back home to support my mother then. We didn't. We just continued exploring the world with a deep wound in my heart.

But life goes on. This trip went on. Our mother proved to be tough after losing one of her sons. Two years later, on day 1118, I think just one thing: I would really like to have had the oportunity to share with my brother at least some moments in this trip.
You left early Vasilis but we will never forget you..._A.Temperidis
