In other words, we enjoy our last days in America here. We arrived to Tigre on Saturday and we didn't move from our beautiful 1860's hostel till Tuesday.
It was raining, it was cold and I had to finish my tenth article for Overlander 4WD of Australia. Do you read the previous articles from our site actually? On Tuesday a bright sun came out and we exploited the day at full. We took a boat to Tigre's channel, walked for hours downtown, from Parque de la Costa to the Puerto de Frutos and we enjoyed the relaxed energy of the place.
Tigre is the favorite weekend destination for most Portenos (as Buenos Aires residents call themshelves) and a perfect place to live permanently for some of them. Its a place for wealthy people (to live) but for everybody to visit. It is only 32 km. from BA and is connected by two roads (one is motorway) and a train with the capital.
Tigre was built in 1820 and flourished as a timber processing port. It developed to a turistic destination since Belle Epoque, about a century ago, thanks to its unique geography. Tigre is built in the delta of Parana river, before the river becomes a sweet water sea - Rio de la Plata. We would really like to live here one day...
What about our state of mind? We feel like old people who have lived everything. Its a nice, warm feeling actually to get to the end. But we are not at the end yet! We have to cross the Atlantic - a two weeks trip in a cargo vessel - and then drive on our beloved Africa again!
Today, we went to J.E.Turner the broker that arranged our trip to Dakar and we got to know that we have two more days to wait. Instead of next Monday, the Grand Amburgo will leave on Wednesday. Its allright... I don't know if we will do something more around Buenos Aires than staying in this beautiful hostel..._A.Temperidis |
